Run, don’t walk, as fast as you can to this glass heaven!
With my part-time move to Seattle over the summer, I had a chance to visit just one of the glass suppliers. I made a lot of cane with Reichenbach glass, so it was only appropriate that I used my first trek to Olympic color rods, the supplier of blowing, lampworking, and casting glass.
I’ve been to classes in glass shops, but the OCR warehouse was completely different. I was in glass nirvana! I was so gob smacked that I didn’t take enough photos. But I had a wonderful time picking out the glass I wanted. So, please forgive me for the lack of pictures.
You don’t need an invitation or appointment to go to their store. It’s located west of downtown Seattle. I drove, but Seattle has an excellent metro system that you can get there via buses or the lite link system (or the ferries if you live on one of the islands).
I was astonished with the number of rods, chunks, frit, and other glass OCR carries. Since I lampwork only, I was more interested in the rods. If you think your supplier carries all the OCR colors, think again! I’ve been making beads since 2000 and there were some colors I’d never heard of…and trust me, they weren’t new!
The workers at both the front desk and in the warehouse were welcoming and friendly. They kept checking on me to see if I needed anything or any special colors. I came with a list, but recklessly added to it!
If you have the time, go check out OCR. You won’t be sorry!
